Good Sales Don't Just Happen - They're Managed

Wilstar Holsteins Complete Dispersal

A large and overflowing crowd was on hand outside Poy Sippi, Wisconsin on beautiful, sunny Saturday, May 30th, for the complete dispersal of Wilstar Holsteins.

Billed as one of the most exciting Holstein events of the year, it certainly lived up to its promise. The large offering was scattered to buyers from 17 states and two foreign countries. When the final gavel fell, the 188 full lots averaged $5221, with 16 calves under 3 months of age averaging $2687, and $145,625 worth of embryos sold, totaling $1,170,225.

The sale topper at $52,000 was a sensational 4th generation EX red Talent who completes 10 generations of VG and EX, including Tora Triple Threat Lulu EX-96 GMD DOM. Wilstar-RS Tlt Limited-Red was milking 130 lbs and classified sale week with a maximum score of EX-92 and an EX(94)MS. MilkSource LLC of Kaukauna, WI outlasted Siemers Holsteins, Newton, Wisconsin for the right to lead this major-league 4 Year Old on the colored shavings.

 The second-high seller at $27,000 was a recently scored EX EX-MS 3 yr old Shottle carrying a CTPI of +2135 and a great deal of contract interest. This 6th generation VG/EX made 33,190 4.4 1463 3.3 1083 at 1-11 yrs and was purchased by Second-Look Holsteins of Eden, Wisconsin.

 John & Joan Judd of Mt Horeb, Wisconsin gave $22,000 for a stunning Shottle heifer bred to Laurin. Dam is an EX-92 1460F Durham from a 2E-91 1559F Lee daughter of Alicia 3E-97.

 Bringing $21,000 to Willis and Carla Gunst was the 2E-94 Canyon daughter with two records over 1600F and 1100P. Canyon Dazzle’s 3E-94 Integrity dam was a consistent show winner and a Jr All-American nominee.

 Lot 1, 2008’s All-American R&W Milking Yrlg, was raised to VG-88 EX-MS sale week and found a new home in Marshall, Indiana at Springbook Farm with the Mike Jones family. She commanded $18,500 and is a sister to Canyon Dazzle.

 The 2E-95 GMD crowd favorite, Juba, brought $16,700 to Mike Phoenix of Greenbank, Ontario. Backed by five VG, high-lifetime dams, this Durham was named All-Wisconsin 125,000 lb Cow in 2008 and already has well over 215,000 lb lifetime credits. More than a dozen more lots sold for $10,000 or more.

 This exceptional herd was owned and developed by Willis and Carla Gunst and Lynn and Sara Harbaugh. The herd carried a 112.1% BAA with a RHA in excess of 27,500 1120 853.

 Joel Kietzman assembled a talented group and had the large lineup beautifully prepared. Sale managers Tom and Sandy Morris were at their usual stations. Gary Estes shared the gavel, and Roger Turner made the announcements, while Scott Courtney, Don Mayer, Kevin Jorgensen, Rick Bovre, Nate Goldenberg, Jay Jauquet, Brian Behnke and Scott Culbertson fielded the bids.
